NFLPA files grievance over Josh Gordon's 1-game ban

Josh Gordon is fighting a suspension, but that won't get him on the field any faster.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the NFLPA has filed a grievance for Gordon regarding his one-game suspension last season.

The suspension came during the final week of the 2014 season after the Cleveland Browns' receiver missed a meeting.

The grievance won't get Gordon catching footballs any faster in the NFL. It is -- as usual -- about money.

The appeal will not overturn Gordon's year-long suspension for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. However, if the one-game, team-imposed suspension is overturned it would accelerate his ability to become a free agent.

If Gordon fails to convince an arbitrator, the 23-year-old would not have played in enough games in 2014 to accrue a season toward free agency.

A player must be active for six games to accrue a season. Gordon was suspended for the first 10 games of the 2014 season. The one-game ban means he will have only participated in five contests.

Gordon currently is scheduled to become a free agent following the 2016 season. If he loses the appeal, he won't be able to hit the market until after 2017.
