NFL ends trial of helmet sensors for concussions in leiu of research

Friday's health and safety news from the world of football:

  • The New York Times reported that the NFL has ended its use of sensors in helmets to test for concussions – at least temporarily.
  • The Associated Press reported that Montana senators are contemplating considering a bill to make it easier for school trainers and coaches to bench an athlete suspected of having a concussion during school-sponsored club sports.
  • Medical Xpress featured worked by Stanford researchers that might be providing the detailed measurements yet of concussive forces in football helmets.
  • Medical Xpress also published that a study in the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery that says more concussion-related protocols need to be written into law for youth sports.
