New York Jets in a conundrum waiting for Dan Quinn

Dan Quinn is in demand. But is he worth the wait?

According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on NFL GameDay First, the Seahawks' defensive coordinator left a strong impression with the Jets, especially after bringing Kyle Shanahan's name into the fold as a potential offensive coordinator.

The 49ers, while very high on Patriots' offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, could also be a dark-horse candidate for Quinn, Rapoport said.

The problem is, Quinn can't get the ball rolling until after the Seahawks' season is done. It could happen Saturday against the Panthers, but at the moment, Seattle remains an odds-on favorite to return to the Super Bowl.

That places the ball in Woody Johnson's court. The owner is in desperate need of a home-run hire after letting go of the very popular Rex Ryan. But if he takes a swing and misses on Quinn, he could be left with the remainder of a once-bustling coaching market.

Other Jets targets like Todd Bowles are expected to go fast, too. So what is the answer?

Obviously, San Francisco would be a preferred destination. Shanahan would seem to pair fantastically with Colin Kaepernick, but are the 49ers determined to lock down McDaniels?

This will be one of the more interesting subplots to the coaching carousel over the next few weeks.
