New York Giants sign No. 10 overall pick CB Eli Apple

The New York Giants have Eli Apple under contract.

The team announced Friday that the first-round cornerback signed his rookie deal just before Big Blue opened rookie minicamp. Apple's four-year pact also includes a fifth-year option.

The 10th overall pick in the draft, Apple is projected to man the slot alongside outside cover men Janoris Jenkins and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. That's not a position Apple saw time at in college, but the former Ohio State defender started 27 of 28 games for the Buckeyes.

The Giants also signed second-round wideout Sterling Shepard and sixth-round tight end Jerell Adams. Of the three, Apple was the team's most surprising pick, with most projecting New York to land linebacker Leonard Floyd. After the Bears traded up to grab the Georgia outside linebacker, though, Big Blue was forced to look elsewhere.
