The Pittsburgh Steelers took a risk when they selected Ohio State's Mike Adams in the second round of April's NFL draft. They'll soon have a chance to see if their gamble will pay off as they struck a deal with the talented but troubled offensive lineman, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday night.
The Steelers confirmed Wednesday that they had signed Adams to a four-year contract. Financial terms weren't disclosed, but according to the Post-Gazette, Adams' deal is worth more than $3.5 million, with more than $1 million included as a signing bonus.
Adams saw his draft stock take a hit after it was revealed he tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. The Steelers said Adams re-entered their draft plans after he asked the team for a second interview in order to ask for another chance to prove himself.
The Steelers granted him just that when they selected him with the 56th overall pick in the draft, and Adams is expected to play a large role on an aging Pittsburgh offensive line.
