McCown on trade block after RGIII arrival in Cleveland

Robert Griffin III has taken the plunge with the Browns. Expect the ripple effect to take Josh McCown out of Cleveland.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that McCown is on the trade block following RGIII's arrival. McCown joins Brian Hoyer -- another former Browns starter -- as 2015 starters now available at the right price. Colin Kaepernick is also on the market, though he might be in Denver-or-bust mode.

McCown, 36, could make sense for a team looking for a bridge option at starter or a backup with starting experience. The Jets -- currently locked in a contract stalemate with Ryan Fitzpatrick -- had interest in McCown last spring and could be the most likely destination. McCown had the best stretch of his career playing with Brandon Marshall and the Bears in 2013.

McCown is 2-17 as a starter in his last two seasons, playing with dreadful teams in Tampa and Cleveland. His production has been better than that record indicates, but he remains a limited player who shouldn't command more than a conditional late-round pick in a trade. The Browns will likely release McCown if they are unable to find a trade suitor.
