Matthews reunited with ex-college coach Gailey in Buffalo

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills claimed tight end Michael Matthews off waivers Wednesday, one day after the Detroit Lions released him.

Matthews, a fourth-year pro, will be reunited with first-year Bills coach Chan Gailey, who was the tight end's head coach at Georgia Tech. Matthews broke into the NFL with the New York Giants in 2007 as an undrafted rookie free agent.

After playing two seasons with the Giants, Matthews split parts of the past two years with the New England Patriots and the Lions. He appeared in just three games with the Lions last season.

Matthews has eight catches for 54 yards in 39 career games.
