Lions' top pass defender Smith might be out 'long term'

The Detroit Lions could be without cornerback Alphonso Smith this week and possibly longer, according to MLive.com.

"We will probably know something more later on today, but there is a possibility of it being a long-term thing," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said.

Smith, who leads the team with five interceptions, sustained a right shoulder injury late in the Lions' loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. If Smith can't play against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Nathan Vasher, Brandon McDonald or recently acquired Tye Hill are in line to replace him.
