Lions TE Scheffler signs three-year contract extension

The Detroit Lions and tight end Tony Scheffler have agreed to a three-year extension that includes a $2 million signing bonus.

Scheffler confirmed the agreement Saturday night. He has 24 receptions for 212 yards and one touchdown this season.

The Lions acquired Scheffler from the Denver Broncos in April in a three-team trade.

The Broncos drafted Scheffler in the second round of the 2006 draft after he starred at Western Michigan and Chelsea (Mich.) High School. He has 162 career receptions for 2,108 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The Lions will play the New York Giants on Sunday, hoping to avoid matching an NFL record with a 24th consecutive loss on the road.
