Lions sign RB Matt Asiata to 1-year deal

The Lions are adding much-needed help to the backfield.

Former Vikings running back Matt Asiata has signed a one-year deal, Detroit announced.

Asiata was signed by Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 2012. In five seasons, he rushed for 1,259 yards on 361 carries and 18 touchdowns.

Asiata should be a nice addition to Detroit's struggling rushing game. The Lions finished No. 30 in the NFL in rushing yards last season. He will compete with Zach Zenner and Dwayne Washington for a roster spot behind Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick.
