Prater landed in Detroit in October after spending the majority of his career with the Broncos, where he earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2013 and emerged as one of the league's most effective kickers. Prater was released by Denver last season after being hit with a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Post-suspension, Prater brought consistency to a Detroit kicking game that previously suffered through a string of disastrous adventures. He finished the season 21-of-26 on field goals in the regular season before going 2-of-2 in the playoffs.
The re-signing makes plenty of sense for a Lions team with the requisite talent for another run at the NFC North in 2015.
