Detroit selected University of Miami signal-caller Brad Kaaya with the No. 215 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Kaaya started all 38 games in three years at Miami, finishing as the Hurricanes' all-time leading passer with 9,968 yards and 69 touchdowns versus 24 interceptions.
Although he was viewed as a potential NFL starter early in his college career, pro scouts began harboring doubts about his athleticism, poise and pocket awareness last season. If he's provided with a clean pocket, though, he can make defenses pay.
In other words, Kaaya arrives in Detroit as a late-round project who must be surrounded with a talented supporting cast.
