Keenan Allen out 'some time' with kidney injury

The AFC leader in receptions is going to be on the sidelines for "some time."

San Diego Chargers receiver Keenan Allen suffered a kidney injury Sunday during the team's latest heartbreaking loss and checked into a San Diego-area hospital. Chargers coach Mike McCoy announced the news Monday, along with the information Allen will be out for "some time."

Allen remained in the hospital Monday and will stay overnight, a source who spoke to the player told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

Allen has 67 catches through eight weeks, which is tied for the third most amount of catches in NFL history in that span behind Julio Jones (this season) and Marvin Harrison.

"As I learn more, we'll give you more information on that, so he'll miss some time," coach Mike McCoy said Monday via The San Diego Union-Tribune. "I'm not going to put a timetable on it as you guys know, and I don't have enough information at this point in time, either. So we're dealing with that and a number of things also."

McCoy -- and almost any NFL coach -- hates to give away injury information. "Some time" would usually indicate this is not a short-term injury. The Chargers play in Chicago next Monday night before a week 10 bye. The Chargers' season, which has been destroyed by injuries, could be all but over by the time Allen is back on the field.
