Jaguars rookie QB Gabbert returns despite rib injury

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert left Sunday's game against the Houston Texans briefly during the first quarter with bruised ribs but later returned.

Gabbert took a shot from Texans linebacker Brian Cushing at the end of an 11-yard scramble on the Jaguars' first series. Gabbert slid at the end of the run, and Cushing landed on the quarterback's mid-section as the two collided.

Gabbert was taken to the bench area, where his pads were removed and trainers put extra wrapping underneath his flak jacket.

He returned on the next series for the Jaguars after being relieved by Luke McCown. Given the nature of rib injuries, it could be a long and painful day for Gabbert.
