Jaguars re-sign offensive lineman Williams

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars re-signed free agent offensive lineman Maurice Williams on Thursday, three days after releasing six-year starter Chris Naeole.

Williams likely will compete with backup Dennis Norman and second-year player Uche Nwaneri for a starting guard spot. He finished last season as the starting right guard for the Jaguars, starting the final eight games in place of the injured Naeole.

A second-round draft pick in 2001, Williams has spent his entire career in Jacksonville. He was the team's starting right tackle for six years, then was demoted to a backup role last season after the Jaguars signed free agent Tony Pashos.

Williams has started 95 of 99 careeer games, including 10 last season.
