Jaguars kicker Scobee sidelined 3-6 weeks with leg injury

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee will miss at least three weeks with a strained quadriceps muscle.

Coach Jack Del Rio also said Wednesday that Scobee could be sidelined as long as six weeks, countering the kicker's claim that his injury was a two-week setback at most.

"I know Josh has made statements where he maybe feels that will be a little quicker timeframe, but that's what the doctors are indicating is the best way to proceed so this doesn't become an ongoing or a major issue," Del Rio said.

The Jaguars signed 43-year-old John Carney to a one-year contract, telling him he would be around as long as Scobee is on the shelf. Carney and four others, including Mike Vanderjagt and Billy Cundiff, worked out for the team Tuesday. The Jags decided on Carney because he offered the best combination of accuracy and leg strength.

"Ideally you have a guy like Josh who can do both," Del Rio said. "Right now, to go get a young guy that can just bang it out of the end zone versus a guy that's going to be able to give you a steady three points, we want to make sure we can get the three when we're in position to get it."
