Injury roundup: Jamaal Charles sits out Chiefs practice

The Chiefs began their work week without the services of Jamaal Charles.

The All-Pro running back sat out Wednesday's practice after coach Andy Reid acknowledged this week that Charles is battling knee and ankle soreness, according to ESPN.com's Adam Teicher.

Reid sounded confident that Charles would be ready for Sunday's critical Week 15 showdown with the Oakland Raiders, and we expect the same. Kansas City's pass-challenged attack won't scare anyone without their most dangerous weapon.

If Charles can't suit up, bank on a heavy dose of Knile Davis.

Other injuries we're tracking as practices unfold from East to West:

  1. Redskins coach Jay Gruden told reporters that wideout DeSean Jackson (leg) is 50-50 for Sunday's tilt with the Giants after practicing Wednesday on a limited basis.
  1. The Packers aren't overly concerned with Eddie Lacy's hip injury -- and with good reason. Green Bay's hard-charging running back took part in Wednesday's session on a limited basis, per ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky.
  1. DeAngelo Williams sat out practice with the hand injury that kept him out of Week 14 action against the Saints, per The Charlotte Observer. His absence Sunday against the Bucs would mean another big workload for the white-hot Jonathan Stewart.
  1. Drew Stanton (ankle/knee), Larry Foote (foot) and Larry Fitzgerald (knee) are probable for Thursday's matchup against the Rams. Antonio Cromartie (ankle) is questionable.
  1. The Jaguars announced that running back Denard Robinsonwill miss the rest of the season with a foot sprain.
  1. Texans coach Bill O'Brien told reporters that wide receiver Andre Johnson remains day to day due to the concussion he suffered Sunday against the Jaguars.
  1. Derek Andersonwill start at quarterback when the Panthers host the Buccaneers after Cam Newton suffered two fractures in his lower back as a result of a two-car accident Tuesday near the Panthers' team facility. Newton was discharged from a local hospital Wednesday.
  1. The Colts were missing a handful of players from Wednesday's session. Mike Adams (back), Sergio Brown (illness), LaRon Landry (illness) D'Qwell Jackson (ribs) and Erik Walden (knee) all didn't participate. Vontae Davis (concussion) was a limited participant.
  1. NaVorro Bowman (knee), Steve Johnson (knee), Marcus Martin (knee) and Justin Smith (back) all missed practice for the 49ers on Wednesday.
  1. Marshawn Lynch didn't practice Wednesday due to a back injury.
