Giovani Bernard remains sidelined for the Cincinnati Bengals.
After the running back missed Wednesday's practice with the hip injury that kept him out of Thursday's loss to the Browns, NFL Media's Albert Breer reported that Bernard will almost certainly miss Sunday's game against the Saints, per a team source.
Bernard hasn't played since injuring his hip in a Week 8 win over the Ravens, but the hope is that he will return against the Texansin Week 12, according to Breer.
If Bernard can't go, look for Jeremy Hill to carry the load against New Orleans. The rookie sliced and diced through the Jaguars in Week 9 for 154 yards off 24 carries before churning out just 55 yards on 12 totes against the Browns. We like Hill as a weekly option in Cincy, but the Bengals aren't the same without Gio's dangerous moves in space.
Other injuries we're tracking on this fine Wednesday:
- Also for the Bengals, Jermaine Gresham (knee) missed practice in what appears to be a rest day for the tight end. Cornerback Terence Newman (knee) and linebacker Vontaze Burfict (knee) also remained sidelined.
- The Buffalo Bills listed runner Fred Jackson (groin) as questionable for the team's Thursday Night Footballmatchup against the Miami Dolphins, exclusively shown on NFL Network. Rookie pass-catcher Sammy Watkins is probable with a groin issue of his own.
- On the other sideline, Miami ruled cornerback Cortland Finnegan (ankle) out, tight end Charles Clay (knee) questionable and quarterback Ryan Tannehill (ankle/right shoulder) and running back Lamar Miller (shoulder) as probable.
- The Detroit Free Press reported that guard Larry Warford will miss a few weeks, but won't need surgery on his banged-up knee. Wide receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) and running back Reggie Bush (ankle) also did not practice Wednesday.
- Ball-hawking Browns safety Tashaun Gipsondidn't practice as he continues to deal with symptoms from the concussion he suffered against the Bengals on Thursday night, per The Plain Dealer. Gipson hasn't been ruled out against the Texans, but it's not a great sign for his availability.
- The Giants announced they placed running back Michael Cox (fractured leg) on season-ending injured reserve. In order to replace Cox, New York signed running back Orleans Darkwa off the Miami Dolphins' practice squad.
- Packers offensive linemen Josh Sitton (toe) and T.J. Lang (ankle) did not participate in practice.
- Titans tight end Delanie Walkerremains in the league's concussion protocol.
- Redskins defensive tackle Barry Cofield is back and ready to go for Washington, but told media members Wednesday that he also underwent groin surgery in mid-September while recovering from an ankle sprain that forced him to miss nine weeks.
- Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy sat out practice with a groin strain, according to The Tampa Tribune. Coach Lovie Smith doesn't think it will affect his ability to play Sunday against the Redskins. Key defensive cogs Alterraun Verner (hamstring) and Michael Johnson (ankle) returned to practice on a limited basis.
- The Pantherswere without defensive tackle Kawann Short (ankle), cornerback Melvin White, running back DeAngelo Williams (hamstring), wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery and offensive tackle Nate Chandler in practice Wednesday.
- Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Wednesday that Arian Foster was "day to day" with his hamstring ailment; however, he expects No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney to play Sunday against the Browns.
- Chandler Jones (hip) and Dominique Easley (knee) didn't practice for the Patriots Wednesday, whereas Nate Ebner (finger), Cameron Fleming (finger), Matthew Slater (shoulder) and Ryan Wendell (knee) were all limited.
- Standout 49ers rookie linebacker Chris Borland was at practice but wore a blue non-contact jersey as he deals with an apparent shoulder injury, according to CSN Bay Area.
