Injury roundup: Aaron Dobson put on IR by Patriots

Aaron Dobson's season is over.

The New England Patriots wide receiver was placed on injured reserve with the hamstring injury he sustained in Sunday's tight loss to the Green Bay Packers, the team announced.

It's another setback for Dobson, who has battled various injuries since being taken by the Patriots in the second round of last year's draft. After breaking his foot last November, Dobson has amassed just 38 yards off three catches over 57 snaps this season. He needed just four plays against the Packers to tweak the hamstring.

Dobson's lack of production is concerning, but his loss won't sidetrack a Patriots offense averaging 29 points per game since Week 5.

Other injuries we're tracking on this fine Thursday:

  1. Texans rookie Jadeveon Clowneywill be placed on season-ending injured-reserve according to coach Bill O'Brien. The No. 1 overall pick from this year's draft will have surgery on his right knee.

"I think highly of all these players here," said O'Brien during Thursday's press conference. "As it relates to JD, this guy's been injured and it's time to clean it up."

  1. Bengals defensive tackle Domata Pekomissed his second straight practice with an elbow injury, but Geoff Hobson of the team's official website believes he'll be ready for Sunday's game with the Steelers.
  1. No sign of Muhammad Wilkerson at Jets practice, per Newsday's Kimberley A. Martin. The behemoth defensive lineman is nursing a toe injury and his status is completely up in the air for this weekend's Vikings tilt.
  1. Bears wideout Alshon Jeffery will play against the Cowboys tonight -- he's active.

However, kicker Robbie Gould and Jeremiah Ratliff will sit out.

  1. Ravens wideout Torrey Smith (knee) said his right knee has gotten better with rest and treatment over the past few days, according to The Baltimore Sun. "The only way I'm not going to play is if I need crutches," Smith said.
  1. Seahawks center Max Unger did not participate in Thursday's practice, while Marshawn Lynch and cornerback Byron Maxwell were limited.
  1. Giants running back Rashad Jennings (ankle) did not practice Thursday. Jennings was unable to finish the game in Sunday's loss to the Jaguars as his sprained ankle has been a lingering issue.
  1. Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams (hand) and guard Amini Silatolu (knee) are all but ruled out for Sunday, according to Ron Rivera. Rivera added that tight end Greg Olsen (knee) looked okay.
  1. Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt said quarterback Zach Mettenberger (shoulder) is continuing to improve and that he is hopeful he will start Sunday.
  1. Colts safety Mike Adams (back), return specialist Josh Cribbs (knee), cornerback Vontae Davis (concussion) and offensive tackle Xavier Nixon (foot) all were held out of practice Thursday.
  1. A.J. Green (thigh) was limited in practice for the Bengals. Robert Geathers (hip), Vontaze Burfict (knee) and Margus Hunt (ankle) were all held out of practice.
  1. Saints running back Mark Ingram (ankle/toe) was limited in practice.
  1. Cornerback Tarell Brown (foot) was limited at practice for the Raiders on Thursday, per the Bay Area News Group.
  1. The Tennessean reported that Titans wideout Kendall Hunter cracked a bone in his hand during Wednesday's practice, and his status for Sunday is contingent on soreness.
  1. Brandon Marshall left Thursday night's game in an ambulance with a ribs injury. The Bears wide receiver never returned.
  1. Bears safety Chris Conte suffered a back injury Thursday night and was ruled out.
