Devin Hester wants some help in the Chicago Bears' receiving corps, and he believes free agent Santana Moss is just the man for the job.
"Anybody that can come in and help out the team, I'm down for it, and a guy like (Moss) can come in and really help out a lot," Hester told the *Chicago Tribune* on Tuesday. "I'm hoping we can get him."
Moss, 32, posted a career-high 93 receptions for 1,115 yards and six touchdowns with the Washington Redskins last season. He has said on numerous occasions that he'd like to stay with the team.
Moss played his college football at the University of Miami, as did Hester.
Bears general manager Jerry Angelo and coach Lovie Smith have expressed their desire to add a taller receiver, but offensive coordinator Mike Martz is no stranger to small, speedy wideouts, making the 5-foot-10 Moss a potential fit.
In addition to Hester, who stands at 5-11, the Bears have three receivers who measure 6 feet tall or under: Johnny Knox (6-0), Earl Bennett (6-0) and Rashied Davis (5-9). So, NFL.com analyst Pat Kirwan believes the Bears should make a play for a taller receiver such as 6-4 Sidney Rice, who "could force rolled coverage his way, would slow down the blitzing and give (Jay) Cutler lots of looks at similar coverages."
"That small stuff is overrated," Smith said earlier this offseason. "You look for receivers who can catch the ball and move the chains."
Moss has done that throughout his career. In 10 seasons with the Redskins and New York Jets, he has posted four 1,000-yard seasons.
