Ravens coach John Harbaugh told listeners on his weekly radio show, via The Sun, that he had spoken to general manager Ozzie Newsome on Tuesday about Merriman, whom the Chargers waived. Merriman played collegiately at Maryland.

"He's a guy we talked about," Harbaugh said. "Ozzie and I had a long discussion today. We'll see if he gets through waivers."

Twenty-five other teams would have to pass on the three-time Pro Bowl selection in order for the Ravens to be awarded Merriman, assuming the Ravens put a claim in on him.
