Giants WRs Hixon, Manningham go down in win over Rams

At the rate their receivers are dropping with injuries, the New York Giants might have to wait until midseason before they head into a game with a full crop of healthy wideouts.

Just as soon as the Giants got third-year pro Hakeem Nicks back for Monday night's tilt against the St. Louis Rams, Domenik Hixon and Mario Manningham suffered injuries during the team's 28-16 victory.

Hixon was injured during a 22-yard touchdown grab late in the first half in which he had to tip the ball back to himself multiple times. After Hixon hit the turf, it appeared he had injured the same right knee in which he tore his anterior cruciate ligament last summer.

Hixon didn't return, but the Giants announced after the game that the injury was to his calf. Hixon told the New York Daily News that he would undergo an MRI exam Tuesday.

Right before Hixon's injury, Manningham suffered a concussion when he tripped and fell on what could have been a long touchdown reception. According to the report, Manningham said he hurt his neck on the play; however, the Giants said Manningham failed the team's concussion tests and wasn't allowed to return to the game.

The Daily News reported that initial reports on both players were that they expect to be available for Sunday's much-anticipated showdown against the Eagles in Philadelphia.
