Giants safety Landon Collins suffers MCL sprain

In East Rutherford, no safeties are safe from injury, especially not the rookies.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin announced Saturday that rookie safety Landon Collins will miss at least one week with an MCL sprain. Collins suffered the injury during New York's first preseason game in Cincinnati on Friday.

The Giants traded up into the second round of the 2015 draft to pick Collins out of Alabama and were expecting him to step right into the position vacated by Antrel Rolle and sure up a mediocre secondary.

First-year safety Mykkele Thompson also suffered an Achilles injury during the Giants' loss to the Bengals. The rookie out of Texas will miss the entire season.

For a Giants secondary already thinned out by free agency and injury, these two injuries will only further decimate the unit, and turn up the temperature on Coughlin's hot seat.
