Giants DT Canty officially ruled out of game vs. Cowboys

New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin confirmed Friday that defensive tackle Chris Canty has been ruled out of Sunday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Coughlin said Canty again missed practice because of a calf strain. Canty, who left Dallas this offseason to sign with New York, was hurt in practice Wednesday.

Citing a league source, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported Thursday that Canty would miss a game for the first time in his five-year NFL career.

Coughlin also said starting safety Kenny Phillips (knee) and cornerback Kevin Dockery (hamstring) sat out Friday's practice as a precaution. Phillips had returned on a limited basis Thursday after sitting out Wednesday, and Dockery had been practicing on a limited basis.

Linebacker Michael Boley (hip), who had been limited in practice this week, fully participated Friday and was listed as probable for Sunday's game.
