Gang Green welcomes back DT Green as Jenkins goes on IR

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The New York Jets placed nose tackle Kris Jenkins on injured reserve and signed defensive tackle Howard Green to help replace him Wednesday.

The move gives the Jets some much-needed depth on the defensive line, which took a major hit when Jenkins went down for the season.

An MRI exam revealed Tuesday that Jenkins tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his surgically repaired left knee early during the Jets' season-opening 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night. Jenkins missed half of last season after sustaining the same injury.

Green played with the Jets last season, but he signed with the Washington Redskins as a free agent. He was among the final cuts by the Redskins on Sept. 4.
