Former player Biekert promoted to coach Raiders' linebackers

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders announced Tuesday that they have promoted Greg Biekert from defensive assistant to linebackers coach.

Biekert joined the coaching staff last year as a defensive assistant. He played linebacker for 11 years in the NFL, including nine with the Raiders, and new coach Hue Jackson said Biekert's vision for the team is in line with his own.

Biekert's most memorable moment came when he recovered the Tom Brady fumble that eventually was overturned by replay in the "Tuck Game" against the New England Patriots in the 2001 playoffs.

Jackson still must fill the role of defensive coordinator. Chuck Bresnahan recently was hired as a defensive coach and could be a candidate for that role.
