Former NHL player Laperriere conquers Ironman Triathlon

Despite a setback from concussion symptoms two weeks earlier, former NHL player Ian Laperriere completed the Ironman Triathlon North American Championship on Sunday in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, NHL.com reported. This is the same event for which former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward is training.

Laperriere said the swim, which regularly features dozens of competitors fighting through open water for position, reminded him of his days as an NHL enforcer.

Ward, who has entered into smaller triathlons, will compete in his first Ironman World Championship Triathlon in October.
