Former NFL receiver Caldwell faces drug charge in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. -- Former NFL wide receiver Donald "Reche" Caldwell is facing a drug charge.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reported that Caldwell was pulled over early Thursday after a deputy ran a license-plate check on his pickup truck and found that the ex-player had a suspended driver's license.

The deputy pulled over Caldwell and had the vehicle impounded. Deputies reported finding a plastic baggie with a small amount of marijuana next to the driver's seat.

Caldwell was charged with marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license. He was released on $750 bail.

The former University of Florida star spent six seasons in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers, Washington Redskins and New England Patriots. He signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2008 but never played.

Jail records didn't list an attorney for Caldwell.
