Former Cardinals S Adrian Wilson expected to retire

Five-time Pro Bowl and 2009 All-Pro safety Adrian Wilson is expected to hang up his football cleats.

The Arizona Cardinals announced on Sunday they will hold a press conference on Monday involving president Michael Bidwill, general manager Steve Keim and Wilson.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Wilson is expected to retire, and added that it wouldn't be a surprise if the safety who spent 12 seasons in Arizona joins the coaching staff.

Wilson signed with the New England Patriots in 2013, but went on IR without playing a down for Bill Belichick. The Chicago Bears then cut Wilson last season during training camp.

As recent as January, Wilson wasn't ready to call it quits. However, after being off the field for two seasons, an opportunity for the 35-year-old safety to continue his playing career never materialized.
