Former Cleveland Browns linebacker David McMillan was fatally shot over the weekend, the DeKalb County (Georgia) medical examiner told NFL.com on Monday.

Fox Sports Ohio reports McMillian, 31, was killed Saturday during an apparent robbery attempt in Decatur, Ga. An investigation by the DeKalb County Police Department is ongoing.

McMillan was taken by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft and played three seasons as a backup outside linebacker and special teams player.
