Fantasy football strategies: Just say no to Darren McFadden!

Here's my basic strategy for fantasy football, and I don't want you to share this with anybody else. But here goes ... my top strategy is to pick the players you think will score the most points.

I don't blame you if you want to take a moment to let that sink in.

Let's take a look at the awesomeness of that statement. Only draft players who you think will score the most points. So genius and obvious, yet there are plenty of people in your leagues who don't follow this simple practice. Go take a look at your last year and you'll notice that at least one person drafted Darren McFadden in their leagues.

They did this despite the overwhelming mountain of evidence that McFadden is not a good fantasy option. And you can bet this year somebody will again draft McFadden, as to thumb their nose in the face of my excellent advice which says to draft players who will score the most points. I just don't get it.

Andre Johnson is another guy who everybody falls in love with (and I'm guilty of this), but Brandon Marshall has had more receptions and yards over the last three years. Greg Jennings has had more touchdowns than Johnson over the past three years. But if you look at most experts' rankings, Johnson is well ahead of them.

Pick the guys who are going to score points for you. Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Calvin Johnson, Arian Foster, et al. These are the guys who are going to score points for you. Don't get caught up in filling positions and just fill your roster with point scorers.

And if this explanation was too much for you (trust me, I understand), let me break it down even further to make it completely simple. Here's my strategy: Don't draft McFadden and players like him. Do that, and you have a huge head start on the competition.
