Falcons' Smith says doctors have plan to deal with 'issues'

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith says his heart is fine.

Smith said Monday his doctors have a plan to address the discomfort that caused him to be examined in a Charlotte hospital following the Falcons' win over the Carolina Panthers on Dec. 11.

The coach didn't make the team flight back to Atlanta from Charlotte. He was back at the Falcons' practice the following day and on the sideline for the home win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.

Smith had follow-up examinations Friday. He said those tests revealed the cause of his problem wasn't his heart.

Smith said "my heart is fine. I am fine." He didn't provide any further details but said his doctor's plan to address his undisclosed "issues" wouldn't affect his coaching duties.
