Ezekiel Elliott gives Cowboys a scare in first practice

The Dallas Cowboys expect Ezekiel Elliott to give the team thrills during his NFL career. On Friday, he offered up a scare.

The first-round pick slipped during one of his first drills at Cowboys rookie camp, causing a brief moment of trepidation. Elliott was fine, and went through his first practice without any other issues.

It was a year ago Sunday that Jaguars rookie Dante Fowler -- like Elliott, a top five pick -- suffered a torn ACL in his first practice with the team.

"We don't need that," Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown said of the slip, according to ESPN.com. "That's why I told him to slow down a little bit."

Elliott was crisp throughout the rest of the 90-minute workout, showing off his speed, quickness and receiving ability.

"The draft process is crazy with the combine and then the draft part (with) all the traveling and not really having a home," Elliott said. "So it's a relief to finally be able to have a stable environment and do what you love and that's play ball."

Consider Elliott the heavy early favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Running back is probably the easiest position to transition to from the college to pro game and Elliott will be running behind the most talented offensive line in football.

If Tony Romo can stay healthy and keep offenses honest with Dez Bryant and Co., Elliott may come out of the gate with a potentially special season. He just needs to stay on his feet.
