Ex-Steelers kicker Reed finds new home with Niners

Former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed has signed with the San Francisco 49ers and will serve as the team's kicker this weekend against the Green Bay Packers, NFL Network's Kara Henderson reported Thursday.

The 49ers officially announced the move Friday and stated that Reed was signed to a one-year contract. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Reed was released by the Steelers in Week 11 following nine seasons in Pittsburgh, during which he made 91.9 percent of his field-goal attempts. That accuracy appeared to slip this season as Reed missed 7 of 22 field-goal tries, including all four attempted between the 40- and 49-yard lines.

A knee injury has sidelined 49ers kicker Joe Nedney the past two weeks. With Nedney not quite ready to return, the team chose to go with the veteran Reed over Shane Andrus, who was released earlier this week after missing two of four field-goal attempts Monday night against the Arizona Cardinals.
