Ex-Saint McAllister owes $1.8 million on house set for auction

LULING, La. -- A house owned by former New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister in Luling is scheduled to be auctioned by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office on July 27.

The auction could be called off before then, according to the Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's sale of the house originally had been scheduled for June. In the meantime, the two sides have been working toward a settlement.

The scheduled sale stems from a writ of seizure resulting from a suit by Whitney National Bank against McAllister. According to the writ, McAllister owes $1.8 million on the mortgage with Whitney. That figure has been inflated by nearly $1 million because of two years' worth of added interest and other penalties while the negotiations were ongoing.

McAllister's conflict with Whitney National Bank dates to 2009, when his Nissan dealership in Jackson, Miss., filed for bankruptcy and was shuttered after being sued for nearly $2 million in defaulted loans and interest payments.

McAllister, 32, declined to comment, except to say that his attorneys have been working toward a settlement with the bank and that his personal finances are in order. He told The Times-Picayune he plans to move into a house in Metairie.

McAllister retired last year as the Saints' all-time leader in rushing yardage (6,096) and touchdowns (55). He still partners with the team as an ambassador for community events.
