Minutes after Adrian Peterson lost a fourth-quarter fumble at the San Diego 20-yard line, the ball was back in his hands.

He rumbled around right end, paused to set up his blocks, and sprinted 46 yards up the sideline for Minnesota's game-clinching touchdown.

This rookie doesn't make many mistakes. He simply sets a lot of records.

Racing to the NFL's single-game rushing record of 296 yards at the midpoint of his first pro season, Peterson carried the Vikings to a 35-17 victory over the Chargers on Sunday.

He didn't realize the significance of his performance until his benign 3-yard carry took the clock under 60 seconds and sent him past Jamal Lewis' 295-yard performance against Cleveland in 2003 for the best game a running back has ever had in this league.

Add one more uncommon distinction to the glittering resume of Brett Favre.

Hitting Greg Jennings for a 60-yard touchdown pass with 3:05 to go Sunday, Favre rallied Green Bay past Kansas City 33-22 and joined Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as quarterbacks who've beaten all 31 other teams in the NFL.

"I've been on some pretty good teams that came in and lost," said Favre, who hit 24 of 34 passes for 360 yards with two TDs and two interceptions while notching his 40th game-winning rally.

Overcome with emotion, Kellen Winslow could barely speak. For a long moment, he sat at his locker, bowed his head and reflected on a day unlike any he's exerpienced in the NFL.

This was a special win for Winslow, and the tear running down his left cheek was proof. He's tired of losing, and so are the Cleveland Browns.

"It's about how bad do you want it," said Winslow, who ignored shoulder and knee pain to catch 11 passes for 125 yards. "I'm just so proud of us because we fought as a team. We deserve this."

Counted out before the season started, the Browns are back.

No running up the score this week. Against the Colts, the New England Patriots had to struggle just to survive.

Survive they did, staying on course for an unbeaten season as Tom Brady threw two of his three touchdown passes in a four-minute span of the fourth quarter to overcome a 10-point deficit and beat Super Bowl champion Indianapolis, 24-20, Sunday.

The win, in perhaps the NFL's biggest regular-season game ever, keeps the Patriots (9-0) on course for the NFL's first unbeaten season since Miami did it in 1972 and gives them the first tiebreaker over Indianapolis (7-1) in the AFC playoffs.
