Eagles LB Spikes out, needs surgery on rotator cuff

PHILADELPHIA -- Takeo Spikes needs surgery on a torn rotator cuff, and the Philadelphia Eagles said Wednesday they will place the veteran linebacker on injured reserve.

Spikes, injured in Sunday's 10-6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, will have surgery on Friday and miss the last two games of the season.

Spikes ranks second on the Eagles (6-8) with 139 tackles, including 90 solo tackles. He also has a sack.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection was acquired by the Eagles in March as part of a three-player trade with the Buffalo Bills. Spikes was a first-round draft choice of Cincinnati in 1998 and spent five seasons with the Bengals before signing with Buffalo in 2003.
