Drew Brees: I'm going to play for Saints vs. Jags

It makes sense for Drew Brees to sit out the final two games of a lost season because of the torn plantar fascia in his foot. Just don't tell Brees.

After saying Thursday he had every intention of playing Sunday against the Jaguars, Brees was even more definitive to New Orleans reporters.

"I'm gonna play," Brees said via Katherine Terrell of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

It's worth noting that Brees was very confident in his ability to play before the team's Week 3 against Carolina despite a shoulder injury. The team wound up making him sit out, and Brees wound up returning the following week.

Brees sat out practice Thursday to rest his injury and it would behoove the Saints to play things safe and keep their franchise quarterback healthy going into the offseason. Heck, they might wind up trying to trade him.

Brees said the team had a "good plan" to manage the pain in his foot and that he does not want to miss the final two weeks. That's bad news for the Jaguars, who are heading to New Orleans Sunday with faint playoff hopes still alive.

"I want to play for my guys. Bottom line," Brees said.
