"I've watched the tape, I don't think we're that far away," Sherman told The Miami Herald. "We're missing a couple of pieces here and there and we have a chance to build upon what (general manager) Jeff Ireland has put together here. After watching the tape, I feel like we get a couple of pieces here and there and we'll be close."

Sherman is confident he'll form a good team with head coach Joe Philbin, recounting how he hired him as a graduate assistant in 1983 at Tulane and later as a Packers assistant in 2003.

"He was an attention-to-detail coach," Sherman told The Associated Press. "His work was always impeccable."
