Detroit Lions lose rookie Zach Zenner for season

The pride of the Lions has seen his last snap of the season.

Coach Jim Caldwell told the media that fullback Zach Zenner suffered multiple cracked ribs and a partially collapsed lung in Sunday's win over the Bears and will be placed on season-ending IR.

Zenner was Detroit's preseason MVP, but never had any meaningful production in the regular season. Undrafted out of South Dakota State, Zenner displayed physicality and deceptive speed in training camp. However, behind Joique Bell, Theo Riddick and fellow rookie Ameer Abdullah, Zenner was reduced to a run-blocking and short-yardage role in the regular season and started just one game.

Amazingly, Zenner leaves as the Lions' second-leading rusher with 60 yards through five games, a stat that speaks to the state of the Lions' running game more than anything else.
