Dallas special teams coach headed home after appendectomy

IRVING, Texas -- Cowboy special teams coach Joe DeCamillis was headed home from Washington on Monday, a day after undergoing an emergency appendectomy that forced him to miss Dallas' victory over the Redskins.

"Everything went well," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "He's feeling good today. He's sore. ... He says he's going to be back tomorrow. It wouldn't surprise me."

DeCamillis' toughness will never be questioned on this club, not after he was on field for the start of summer workouts just a few weeks after breaking his neck when the team's indoor practice facility collapsed.

Phillips' son, Wes, handled DeCamillis' duties against the Redskins.
