In a story that epitomizes the Social Media-era, DeMarco Murray's Twitter profile is the talk of Tuesday morning.
The running back scrubbed his Twitter account of any mentions of the Dallas Cowboys, leading to the speculation that the free-agent-to-be is unhappy with the team or plans on signing elsewhere when the market opens at 4 p.m. ET.
Or maybe it means nothing. Has anyone checked to see if Murray pulled the Cowboys welcome mat off his front porch?
Regardless of the reason for Murray's pre-spring social media cleaning, it gives us an excuse to discuss the possible replacements if the NFL's leading rusher finds a new home. Murray could fetch a steep price from a cash-flush team like the Jacksonville Jaguars, which would leave America's Team with a gaping hole in the backfield.
Spiller would be an interesting signing for the Cowboys. He's not the power back like Murray and often dances or bounces the ball outside, which wouldn't be a perfect mesh with Dallas' blocking scheme. Spiller would essentially be a better version of the backs currently on the roster.
Currently sitting at No. 21 overall in our top 101 free agents list, Spiller represents what used to be a middle class of running backs. Those contracts have dissipated in recent years. We'll soon see if having multiple teams interested in the runner could resurrect a renewed mid-tier contract.
