Former Giants coach Tom Coughlin is being inducted into the team's Ring of Honor this weekend, but that doesn't mean he's happily retired.
Yes, Coughlin is the senior advisor to football operations at the NFL, but the lifelong coach still misses his old gig.
"I'm being less than honest if I said I didn't miss the sideline," he told reporters on a conference call Tuesday ahead of this weekend's big event.
He added that current Giants head coach Ben McAdoo has done a "nice job."
While it may sound ridiculous, Coughlin will be an interesting name to watch once the head coaching carousel winds up again at the end of the season. Coughlin was brought in to interview for the Eagles job, though the sit down didn't exactly go as expected. According to one report, the coach spent the entire interview recounting the bitter divorce from New York instead of providing a map for the future.
A year removed from the acrimonious divorce from his long-time team in New Jersey, he could have a fresh perspective on the interview process and a better idea of who he could pluck for a coaching staff. The temptation, of course, is to go young and develop a future star from the coordinator ranks. However, teams that have hired old re-treads -- like the Cardinals and Seahawks -- have also had a measure of success.
If not, Coughlin will continue to grind. At 70, he shows no sign of slowing down and no interest in distancing himself from the profession he loves.
