Colts reportedly ask permission to interview Bengals DC Zimmer

The Indianapolis Colts' coaching search reportedly has expanded to include Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Thursday that the Colts have asked the Bengals for permission to interview Zimmer for their open head-coaching position following the Tuesday firing of Jim Caldwell, making Zimmer the third coordinator this week the Colts have requested permission to interview.

The Indianapolis Star reported Wednesday, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, that the team wanted to speak with Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael.

Zimmer has been a hot commodity this offseason and has been linked to the head-coaching vacancies of the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
