Chiefs sign free-agent RB Peyton Hillis

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - When Brian Daboll was his offensive coordinator in Cleveland, Peyton Hillis was one of the top running backs in the NFL.

Now he and Daboll are back together in Kansas City, and Hillis says he's looking to rebound from his terrible 2011 season.

The Chiefs formally announced on Thursday they had signed the versatile 250-pounder to a one-year free agent contract for a reported $3 million. He'll be re-united with Daboll, who became Kansas City's offensive coordinator earlier this year.

Kansas City could have one of the most potent backfields in the league if Hillis regains the form that saw him rush for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2011, and if Jamaal Charles bounces back from knee surgery,
