Veterans of the recently deceased Alliance of American Football are starting to trickle back onto NFL rosters.
One of the first to re-join the NFL is Keith Reaser, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, the team announced Friday.
Two days after suspending operations indefinitely, the AAF announced Thursday that all of its players were authorized to sign with NFL teams.
Reaser played with the Orlando Apollos, who were atop the AAF standings at the time of its disbandment, in 2019. The cornerback had three interceptions in eight games with Orlando.
A fifth-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2014 draft, Reaser most recently spent time with the Chiefs in 2017. In five seasons in the NFL, Reaser has played 30 games, forced two fumbles and recorded one sack. Reaser recovered a fumble in Kansas City's wild-card loss to the Tennessee Titans in January 2018. The Chiefs released Reaser in September 2018.
AAF alums continued to be plucked by NFL squads.
» Orlando Apollos quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who led the AAF in passing yards, was signed by the Cleveland Browns and the Minnesota Vikings made two signings.
» Safety Derron Smith and cornerback Duke Thomas, who each played for the San Antonio Commanders, were signed by the Vikings on Friday, the team announced.
»A pair of AAF players found homes with the Carolina Panthers, who on Friday announced the signings of offensive linemen Kitt O'Brien and Parker Collins.
»The Oakland Raiders announced the signing of defensive end Alex Barrett on Friday. Previously having been in the Lions organization, Barrett was most recently with the San Diego Fleet of the AAF.
»Pittsburgh is hoping iron sharpens steel, as the Steelers announced the signings of two former Birmingham Iron players -- center J.C. Hassenauer and defensive back Jack Tocho -- on Friday to one-year contracts. Hassenauer spent time in the Falcons' organization before moving on to the AAF's Iron, while Tocho was drafted by the Vikings in 2017 and moved on to the Redskins.
»The 49ers announced they have signed defensive lineman Damontre Moore to a one-year deal. Moore has bounced around between the Giants, Dolphins , Seahawks, Cowboys and Raiders over the past six seasons before playing for the San Diego Fleet this spring. He recorded seven sacks and 22 tackles. He has appeared in 54 NFL games, registering 63 tackles, 10.0 sacks, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles.
»Offensive lineman Michael Dunn is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins, Around The NFL's Herbie Teope reported, per a source. Dunn, who played for the Iron, previously spent time with the Rams and Jaguars.
» Cornerback De'Vante Bausby is signing with the Denver Broncos, Teope reports via source informed of the situation. Bausby, who most recently played with the San Antonio Commanders, had NFL stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs. Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic first reported the signing.
» Outside linebacker/defensive end Andrew Ankrah is expected to sign with the Washington Redskins pending results of a physical, Teope reports, via a source informed of the situation. Ankrah played for the Orlando Apollos. ESPN first reported the signing.
» The Dolphins are signing outside linebacker/pass rusher Jayrone Elliott, who led the AAF in sacks with 7.5, Rapoport reported.
» Defensive end Shakir Soto has signed with the Cowboys, Rapoport reported.
» Defensive lineman Karter Schult is signing with the Vikings, per Rapoport.
