Cards' Fitzgerald cleared to play after lung injury in OT win

Larry Fitzgerald made several spectacular catches that led to the Arizona Cardinals' 23-20 overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks. He did it all with a bruised lung.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said Fitzgerald took a shot during the third quarter and was initially evaluated on the sideline for a concussion. Fitzgerald was diagnosed with a bruised lung after game, although X-rays revealed nothing was broken.

"After the game, we checked him out, and he did have a bruise on his lung," Whisenhunt said. "It wasn't something considered serious."

Running back Beanie Wells confirmed Fitzgerald was coughing up blood on the sideline after the hit. Fitzgerald finished with nine receptions for 149 yards.

Given the way Fitzgerald finished, Whisenhunt said it was "obviously" the right decision.

Fitzgerald, who didn't mention the injury during his postgame news conference, was examined again Monday and determined to be fine.
