Cardinals' CB Peterson won't need surgery on Achilles injury

An MRI exam on Monday confirmed that Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson does not have a tear in his injured left Achilles' tendon, according to the team's official site, and the injury won't require surgery to repair.

The report follows the positive outlook of coach Ken Whisenhunt, who indicated Saturday that Peterson's injury was not too serious. On Sunday, Peterson tweeted that the injury was "coming along pretty good," an assessment that was held up by Monday's tests.

Peterson is dealing with inflammation and will be looked at again by the team on Wednesday, according to the report. He will undergo treatment and be evaluated again Wednesday as team begins practices to determine if he might be able to participate in Sunday's finale against the Seattle Seahawks.

Peterson suffered the injury while attempting to intercept a pass during Saturday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Whisenhunt said the team would continue to "err on the side of caution" with quarterback Kevin Kolb, who has missed the last two games with a concussion. Kolb continues to have "little symptoms" of the concussion, according to Whisenhunt.
