Browns sign Tyler Huntley while they deal with injuries at QB position

Injuries have prompted the Browns to add another quarterback.

Cleveland is signing Tyler Huntley, the team announced Tuesday.

The addition gives the team another arm in training camp, a necessity as a four-way quarterback competition has been stunted by small injuries to three of the four signal-callers vying for the starting job.

Joe Flacco, 40 years old, is actually the Browns' only QB who has remained fully healthy throughout camp, and he is currently listed atop the team's unofficial depth chart. Kenny Pickett hasn't participated in team drills since suffering a mild hamstring injury on July 26.

Cleveland's rookies, meanwhile, have also both missed a bit of time. Third-rounder Dillon Gabriel began sitting out practice Monday due to hamstring tightness, and although fifth-rounder Shedeur Sanders has since returned, he dropped out of an Aug. 2 session due to arm soreness.

The carousel of ailments has led the Browns to add Huntley, a familiar face and former Pro Bowler with five years of experience under his belt.

Huntley has a career 64.6 completion percentage, 2,786 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, plus another 644 yards and five scores on the ground.

He spent last year's training camp with the Browns, as well, but was released at the end of August. He eventually played five games in 2024 for the Dolphins while Tua Tagovailoa missed time due to a concussion, but is most known as Lamar Jackson's backup for several years in Baltimore.

Similar to Flacco, Huntley is a former Raven now coming to Cleveland a second time, and he'll get a chance as the club tries to keep some healthy bodies under center.
