The Browns are embracing their nickname in a new way this season.
Cleveland introduced a brown alternate helmet on Wednesday as part of a monochrome uniform branded as their "Alpha Dawg" look.
" 'Alpha Dawg' embodies what we set out to be as the Cleveland Browns, the leaders of the pack. We're excited about this new alternate helmet and the ode it pays to the rich history of the color brown as part of our organization, switching it up from our iconic orange helmets," Browns EVP J.W. Johnson said in a statement on Wednesday. "We look forward to the team wearing the all-brown helmet and uniform combination for the first time on September 21 at Huntington Bank Field and leaning into the 'Alpha Dawg' mentality throughout the 2025 season."
The new brown helmet revives a matte finish that was previously seen in their primary orange helmets worn from 2015-2023. The Browns returned to a glossy finish on the main helmets in 2024, but they have chosen the flat finish for their alternate as a base upon which they're placing a new orange-brown-orange triple stripe down the middle of the helmet, which also includes a brown facemask. In keeping with their long-held tradition, the helmet does not include a logo.
The brown helmet will be the first worn by the team in their history and is the defining feature of their all-brown alternate uniform, which marries the new lid with their existing Color Rush uniform, a simplified, stripe-less version of their initial Color Rush kit that first debuted in 2018.
Thanks to the NFL's decision to offer more headgear options to teams, Cleveland is retaining its white helmet, suggesting their well-received all-white alternate -- a look built around their 1946 throwback uniform -- remains available for use in 2025.
The Browns will wear the all-brown "Alpha Dawg" three times this season: Week 3 vs. Green Bay, Week 7 vs. Miami and Week 14 vs. Tennessee.
